As soon as I saw this pattern I was eager to make it for the many lovely littlies in my family. I love the old-fashioned look of this, remembering just such coats in my childhood. I decided to make up a toile first and found this piece of light blue wool in my stash, just enough to make up the coat for my littlest grand-daughter Phoebe. The collar and cuffs I cut out of a stretch blue velvet top that I bought ages ago in a Charity shop just for the fabric.
The lining is the same blue and white cotton mix fabric shown yesterday in my long sleeved shirt blouse. This toile cost me nothing to make and is an absolutely lovely wearable ‘toile’. Phoebe looks adorable in it, but then she would in bin liner, so perhaps I am prejudiced. This is the view from the back, I think I would add just a little half belt with buttons in the middle back. Now I just need to source some lovely soft wool, I have a long list of littlies waiting [five so far and counting].
