I am thinking of starting a Fabrics Anonymous Group…any takers? It is for people like me who buy fabric with only a very vague idea of what they are going to use it for and who can never say ‘No’ to any gifted fabric, no matter how hideous and still lust after buying more new fabric for just the ideal project. Now I read a lot of sewing blogs, so I know you are all out there. How many times have I read ‘I found this fabric in my stash, I can’t now remember what I bought it for’. Sound familiar?
Louise of Sew Sensational had the good idea to post pictures of fabric that she didn’t know how to use and to ask for suggestions. We are always happy to advise others with just the right [to our mind] solution to their problems, because [a] we don’t have to sort it if it doesn’t work; [b]it is so much easier to be objective, no emotional or financial investment and [c] best of all, it delays the moment we have to sort out our own problems! So moved by guilty conscience [really? er no] I looked again at my patterns, thought about the projects I had in mind and then went to look at my stash. And guess what – I just don’t have anything suitable!
p.s. to Louise – let us know what you finally decide to make or do with the fabric you showed.
p.p.s. No, that isn’t my stash, but I can see some nice pieces in there……
I love this post! I’m also feeling quite honoured that you were inspired by my own fabric stash. I’ve had so many suggestions from people now that my mind is running crazy with ideas – I just need the weekend to hurry up and arrive so I can get started! Everything I make from the suggestions will go on my blog though, so keep checking 🙂 and good luck with your own projects!
Are you sure that isn’t your stash?
Have you been spying on me? who told you? I take the 5th.
